Today students demonstrated various cooking methods with tilapia.
Parmesan crusted tilapia demonstrated baking,
Cracker-crusted fish demonstrated frying,
And poached fish demonstrated poaching.
It was a nice lab for this time of year because there are excellent sales on fish. I do not have a seafood unit in my curriculum so it is nice to give the students some experience.

Eating Iron!
Yesterday I had a student rambling random facts. One is that if you collected all of the iron in a human body, you could make a nail. It's true! And I happened to have some Raisin Bran handy to prove it.
Just follow the instructions posted here. The instructions call for Total brand cereal and a very strong magnet but I was able to do it with Raisin Bran and a binder clip. It was an interesting activity while my students waited for their eggs to cook. This could be part of a nutrition activity about fortification or minerals.

Ice Breaker Bingo
This icebreaker activity is a good way for students to introduce themselves to one another.
Then, to review, I ask students to point to who signed their sheet. It helps the whole class review names.
Next Tuesday is "Gum Tuesday." After that point I have to give students a pack of gum if I call them the wrong name. :)
